Description
The scene is a typical canal street in Venice, Italy.
Dad traveled to Venice in 1977 and again in 1995. I accompanied him on his 1995 trip, and this street was where we stayed for their brief 12 day visit - in a small family hotel (El Bergo), just a short walk from San Marc square.

The Postcard
On this day, while Dad was creating this piece, I was off on my own, touring the local Venice streets. I stopped in a small shop to purchase a postcard to send back home to Mom. I wrote a short note and mailed it off immediately. When Dad and I returned home to New York, we were reviewing his many new paintings, and to our surprise, the postcard that I mailed to Mom was a photograph of this exact street and viewpoint. From that day on, this painting, and this street, became a very special connecting point for us - Mom, Dad, and me. It's a place we would forever call, "Our Spot". ❤️
