An old view from the Staten Island New York waterfront with the New York City skyline and World Trade Twin Towers in the backdrop.

Dad loved to paint and draw throughout New York City. He would travel daily by foot and public transportation to find his scenes. He left early in the morning, took a small lunch packed in his bag of paints and brushes, and returned with his art creations by the end of the day. He was 48 years old at the time of this work. My brother, sister, and I were in school and Mom was working at her office job. Dad took care of the basic house things, but mostly he was out painting, drawing, or doing some other art-related activity. My Mom really made that possible because without her I believe we would have been homeless.

Taking the Staten Island Ferry was something Dad did often; it was free, and the boat trip was probably exciting for him as it led up to whatever scene he was going to find on the other side.

On this day, he traveled downtown by subway, hopped onto the Ferry, and arrived in Staten Island, he set up his easel and captured this wonderful scene with different levels of depth, each telling their own story - first the train yard cars, then the waterway with all kinds of boats and in the backdrop that simply painted New York City skyline, so common in his art, and the beautiful towering Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. ❤️
