A perfect view from one of the many piers in Brooklyn Heights - many of which no longer exist.

Dad traveled throughout the Brooklyn waterfront, especially Brooklyn Heights and the old Brooklyn Navy Yard. He had a unique romance with boats and harbors, as is evident in his many marine paintings of New York City, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens, New Jersey, Long Island, and the world. He would say, "Boats are like people. They have a certain character." Today, when I see even a simple rowboat, I remember his words and feel their meaning.

Dad was 42 at the time of this painting, and I was in Kindergarten, which created freedom for him to venture out on his own to paint - to develop and apply his artistic vision - freedom that did not exist for him since my birth in 1959. Now he could rediscover himself and discover New York City as an artist.

On this day, the Brooklyn Bridge is to the left, a few old fishing vessels are front and center, and the old Squibb Pharmaceutical plant is in the backdrop. The gentle waves lead our eyes forward toward those proud puffy clouds.

(This area is now a park for all to enjoy.)

I can feel Dad's pride and happiness as he created this Brooklyn Front. ❤️
