THERE WERE FLOWERS

by Laszlo Tar

Watercolor - 1975
Cat# 11140301/1975

Description

Easter in our family, as with many, was a special time. We were Christians, but not overly religious. God lived continuously in our hearts. A gathering at home, a big meal, talks about the past, present, and future - and there was endless happiness.

Mom always cooked something traditional and hardy. For example, an Easter dinner typically included homemade soup, homemade noodles, roasted lamb, vegetables, and homemade cakes.

The day starts with a long sit-down in the living room and Dad flipping through some of his latest paintings. He would ask for votes on which painting everybody felt was best. That always led to exciting chatter. We were Dad's audience, and I know it made him proud to show off his work. Unfortunately, Dad didn't have much of an audience other than family for most of his life. There was no Internet and very few exhibits. He was essentially an unknown artist with only a few artist friends, but it didn't matter because he was our Artist Dad!

There was never an Easter without flowers for Mom, and naturally, that meant flowers for Dad to paint. Indeed, no flower ever went unnoticed or unpainted in our home - Dad immortalized them all. ❤️

On this day, in 1975, Dad was 53 years old. It was Easter, and as always, There Were Flowers.

Happy Easter ❤️
