A BEAUTIFUL VIEW

by Laszlo Tar

Watercolor - 1971

Description

Back in the 1960s to the 1980s Dad gained special permission from the US Coast Guard to paint from Governors Island.

Governors Island is off the south coast of lower Manhattan and was a Coast Guard base for many years.

Dad went there often to capture the spectacular city skyline views, and this work is from one of those times.

But he painted the city from many locations. He was always out there, on the bridges, buildings, parks, and streets.. Uptown, Downtown, High & Low, Near & Far.

Dad loved creating cityscapes with the World Trade Center because of its mammoth size and modern, majestic contrast against the older city skyline.

He shared with me how, to him, the Towers were like a big brother and sister in a family of a thousand smaller siblings - all posing for him.

From his eyes, to his heart, through his pallet, and onto his canvas or paper - he captured New York City life for us to experience forever. 🙏

Dad saw the harmony, happiness, and love in all of it - and he eternalized it for us.

His vision was always perfect, he always had A Beautiful View. ❤️
