This dramatic oil painting captures the New York City skyline from the west side, just in front of the old bus terminal.

The Empire State Building rises majestically in the center, piercing a stormy sky filled with dark gray clouds. Despite the ominous weather, a soft, diffuse glow of sunlight is breaking through, illuminating the scene with a gentle, almost ethereal light.

The city's iconic buildings, rendered in light tan hues, create a stark contrast against the gray backdrop. In the foreground, the old bus parking garage displays the backs of curved, vintage buses, lined up neatly, their shiny surfaces reflecting the faint light.

The Empire State Building, a gray monolith, stands as a symbol of the city's strength and resilience. The old buses, with their distinctive curved shapes, evoke a sense of nostalgia, bringing back memories of stories about our early days living in Manhattan.

The predominant gray tones of the painting create a calm and reflective mood, yet there is a lot of drama and amazing depth created by the sun's golden glow in the backdrop.

This is one of Dad's cherished early oil paintings, created shortly after we arrived in the United States in 1956, and settled in uptown Manhattan.

Dad's love for New York City and its vibrant energy comes alive!

On this day in 1960, when Dad was new to New York, and new to America, he found a dramatic, nostalgic view, and City Line. ❤️
