Back in the 1960s to the 1980s, Dad gained special permission from the US Coast Guard to paint from Governors Island.

Governors Island is off the south coast of lower Manhattan and was a Coast Guard base for many years.

Dad went there often to paint the spectacular city skyline views, and this work was from one of those times.

The time of this work was before the World Trade Center, but he would return in 1971 to create another piece titled A Beautiful View with the trade towers in beautiful view.

Dad painted the city from many locations. He was always out there, on the bridges, buildings, parks, and streets.. Uptown, Downtown, High & Low, Near & Far - unstoppable. He saw things that many New Yorkers take for granted, and through his work, he tried to bring attention to those things because he found them to be beautiful.

On this day in 1965, Dad was painting From Governors Island. ❤️
