Description
On a warm summer day, Dad captures a timeless view of 5th Avenue at The Plaza Hotel in New York City.
It is a perfect moment just outside Central Park on 59th Street. The horse carriages are waiting patiently, children play joyfully, and people sit relaxed while the grand flags of The Plaza welcomed guests.
Dad, a formally trained Hungarian-American fine artist, arrived in the United States with our family in 1956. We fled Communist Hungary and first lived in a small uptown Manhattan apartment.
Central Park was a place Dad went often to paint and draw, as he found peaceful inspiration in its natural beauty amidst the bustling city. And for our family, it was a free playground, a place where we could escape the confines of our poverty for a day, to play and picnic almost every weekend.
In this perfect moment, Dad's eyes and brushstrokes preserve the lively yet serene scene before him. The Plaza's elegant facade stands proudly while everyday life unfolds at its doorstep. With each dab of paint, Dad captures the essence of a quintessential New York moment, frozen in time for us in beautiful watercolors on paper.

On this day in 1964, my artist-father, Laszlo Tar, found inspiration At the Plaza Hotel. ❤️
