This tranquil harbor scene in Huntington, Long Island, holds a special place in my heart. The cool green tall grass on the beach, offset by the light brown sand, and the dubious purple haze in the sky with a lone seagull soaring above - it's a view that instantly transports me back to cherished moments with my father.

Mom and Dad lived just a short distance away, and Dad would often walk from their house, down Mill Dam Lane and onto West Shore Drive to explore and capture the beauty of Huntington Harbor.

One reason they chose to live in this area was the public's easy access to the harbor, a feature that fueled Dad's passion for painting boats in their natural setting, which he always loved.

Some of my fondest memories are of the long drives Dad and I would take, scouting out picturesque locations for him to set up his easel. He was the most perfect passenger, regaling me with stories and simple yet profound insights about beauty and artistic inspiration.

As I gaze upon this painting today, I'm struck by how masterfully Dad captured the tranquil atmosphere of the harbor - the boats gently rocking at their moorings, the few fortunate souls savoring the view from the docks. Yet it's the smaller details, the nuances only a keen observer could detect, that truly bring the scene to life and speak to the depth of Dad's talent and inner soul.

This harbor painting is more than just a pretty landscape to me. It's a treasured memento of our shared journey, of the hours we spent side-by-side as Dad translated his vision into art. In immortalizing this serene corner of Huntington, he also immortalized the sacred bond between a father and son, united in their appreciation for art's power to elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary.

On this day in 1995, Dad reminds us of the peaceful perfection of The Harbor. ❤️
