Here, Dad's painting of a Hudson River marina captures the essence of a winter day in New York City, with remarkable skill and perspective.
A layer of snow along the waterfront, the figures standing by the docked vessels, as if waiting, and a tug steaming in the distance all come together to create a serene and evocative scene.
And enjoy the many color tones, reddish sky, water reflections, and overall composition.
Now imagine Dad bundled up against the cold, standing in the frozen snow and delicately, yet forcefully, layering his watercolor paints on paper (before they freeze) to bring this moment to life.
Dad was always undeterred by the weather, as long as the conditions were not too extreme. His amazing, unwavering commitment to his art, throughout his life - even in the face of challenging conditions - is a testament to an awesome passion that, for me, is hard to comprehend. First, he had to journey out there in the freezing cold to find his subject, next setup his easel, create the work, pack it all up, and finally, return home. That takes drive and inspiration.
On this day in 1965, - a frigid day for sure - Dad was out there in the cold, Waiting for the Catch. ❤️
