LA RUE

by Laszlo Tar

Watercolor - 1977
Cat# 2521032/1977

Description

This beautiful watercolor captures a street scene in Paris, France, in the Montmartre region.

The painting depicts a large home, an old chateau, standing proudly on a gentle green hill off the main road. The summer sky is stormy, with deep gray clouds casting a dramatic shadow over the scene. Figures walk near the building, their forms soft and impressionistic, adding life and movement to the composition.

Dad's art has always been a window to a world of beauty and emotion, a testament to his journey and talent.

He was a formally trained classical artist, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, Hungary. His works are a vibrant blend of expressionism, fauvism, and impressionism, reflecting both his artistic prowess and the tumultuous times we endured as a family.

We escaped Communist Hungary in 1956, leaving behind the only home we knew for the promise of freedom in the United States. Despite the hardships, my father's spirit remained unbroken, his passion for art undimmed.

Dad's art was his voice, a way to express what words could not. He often shared with me his love for the old European charm of Paris and the complex feelings of his past. His paintings were always more than just images; they were stories, emotions, and pieces of our history captured in color and form.

Dad visited France in 1977, and on this day he found, La Rue.
