Dad and I visited Venice together in 1995, but he also went there alone in 1977. This piece was from his 1977 trip.
This work depicts the Grand Canal of Venice, Italy. The work shows an easterly view from the bridge that is just east of the rail station. The building on the left is "Palazzo Labia a San Geremia".
Venice was a magical place for Dad. I remember taking him back in 1995 and how excited he was. While I needed sleep after the long flight, Dad went straight to work - got right out there and started painting. He loved the colorful architecture and canals of Venice.
On this day in 1977, Dad was 55 years old. He found Venice, and it found him. Together, they became close friends, forever alive in this work of Canale Grande.
