This enchanting scene is near the Bridge of Sighs, in the magical world of Venice, Italy, where my father's artistic soul came alive - and likely still lives.

The vibrant colors of the vessels, the soft pastel hues of the buildings, that perfect sky, and the iconic striped mooring poles all blend together to evoke the essence of this captivating city.

For an artist like Dad, Venice was a paradise. The absence of cars allowed him to focus on the intricate beauty of the ancient architecture and the winding canals that crisscross the city. Gondolas and water taxis are the primary mode of transportation. And yet, it was the simple act of walking that, I feel, allowed Dad to truly absorb the essence of this amazing place, and to create the beauty that lives in his Venice paintings.

I feel very fortunate to have shared in my father's love of Venice, accompanying him on his second trip in 1995. But I am also in awe of his solo journey in 1977, when he first discovered the city's secrets and allowed them to seep into his art. His experiences during both trips not only shaped his work, but, I feel, it also left an indelible mark on my own appreciation of his art and who he was as an artist.

On this summer day in 1977, Dad found a perfect moment that inspired him with La Prossima Fermata.
