Description
Somewhere in the romantic canals of inner Venice, Italy, there is a spot just like this.
The scene bursts with vibrant colors; the gondolas, with their rich hues of red, green, and blue, rest peacefully on the water. Behind them, pastel-colored buildings rise, their facades reflecting softly in the gently rippling canal. The loose, expressive brushstrokes capture the essence of the scene, making it feel both dynamic and serene.
Dad, a formally trained classical artist from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, Hungary, traveled to Venice twice; once in 1977 and again we went together in 1995.
On this day in 1977, Dad was on a 5 month European painting journey, exploring the rich artistic heritage of the continent by himself. That year, he ventured through England, Italy, France, and the Netherlands. His expressionist, fauve, and impressionistic style, influenced by masters like Dufy, Picasso, and Van Gogh, came alive in this piece, reflecting his deep connection to the beauty and history of Venice.
Today, Dad found himself in Venice, Italy, standing amidst the picturesque canals, his easel set up, capturing the gondolas Quietly Waiting.
