Description
The scene is San Marco square in Venice, Italy.
The towering Campanile stands proudly on the right, while the grand Saint Mark's Basilica dominates the center and left, its domes and arches bathed in warm hues. The square is alive with figures, tourists, and locals alike, mingling with the ever-present pigeons, creating a scene of bustling activity and timeless beauty.
Dad visited Venice twice, first in 1977 and then again with me in 1995.
This particular work reflects one of the stops on Dad's solo journey in 1977, part of a European tour that took him through England, Italy, France, and the Netherlands.
This summer day, he found himself amidst the splendor of San Marco, capturing its essence with every brushstroke. The vivid colors and expressive lines are reminiscent of the classical artists he admired, from Dufy to Van Gogh, and each stroke is infused with a sense of admiration and awe for the breathtaking beauty of Venice.
