Description
As I close my eyes, I think back to incredible Venice Italy, and the time with my father, in 1995. It was exactly at this time, in late July, when we traveled together.
Dad had visited Venice alone once prior, in 1977, and this piece is from that trip.
One of the amazing man-made wonders of the world, Venice Italy is a place that can excite you. It is made mostly of stone and many of those stones are big - HUGE - is a better descriptive.
In many ways, it is a perfect location for an artist because there are no cars in Venice, just walking streets, piazzas and many foot-bridges crossing the veins of canals that pass throughout the city.
The buildings of Venice are old and beautiful, with pastel colored walls and terracotta tile roofs.
Romantic gondolas and water taxis fill the canal ways, and the native Italians are friendly and welcoming.
Santa Maria Della Salute is one of the many amazing Venice churches. Completed in 1687, as an offering to God, to deliver Venice from the plague (black death). It sits across the Grand Canal, from Piazza San Marco, and as with many of the canal-front structures, it has steps leading directly to the waterway.
Such enormous beauty is this place, and for Dad, in 1995 and 1977, Venice was also, in many ways, his own Salute! (deliverance), because it inspired and propelled his work forward for many years to come. ❤️
