This piece beautifully captures the iconic view of the Manhattan Bridge from the vantage point of the Brooklyn Bridge, with the Empire State Building standing proudly in the background.
The vibrant blue waters of the East River ripple with movement, as a tugboat and other vessel navigate its currents. The Manhattan side is adorned with charming brick brownstones lining the riverbank, adding a touch of warmth to the urban landscape. Above, the sky is a canvas of blue, dotted with incredible, round puffy clouds that seem to float across the scene.
In 1964, when Dad was 42 years old, he traversed the expanse of New York City, seeking the perfect scenes to draw and paint. His journeys brought him to places like this, where the grandeur of the city skyline meets the serene flow of the river.
This work reflects Dad's profound connection to the city's dynamic spirit and his ability to convey its essence through his expressionist, fauve, and impressionistic styles. The blend of vibrant colors and fluid brushstrokes showcases his admiration for the classical artists he revered, while also highlighting his unique artistic voice.
On this day, he found the Manhattan Bridge. ❤️
