This painting always takes me back to a magical time at the Central Park Zoo in New York City. It's like stepping into a nostalgic dream.
The scene is of the zoo on its centennial anniversary, in 1964.
You can almost smell the summer air as visitors feed treats to the elephants. And I love how Dad painted that big-hearted lady in blue, beaming with joy, and the mom fixing her kid's shoe while balloons float away in the background. It's like you're right there, surrounded by the excitement and happiness of that day.
I know zoos have changed a lot since then - the enclosures are more natural now, which is great - but this piece is special because it shows how things used to be. It's like a window into the past, and it's amazing to see it through Dad's eyes.
On this day in 1964, Dad took his easel on A Trip to the Zoo. ❤️
Through My Father's Eyes
