Description
Some may be surprised to know that there are gondolas in Central Park, New York City. While they have been in the park for many years, I too don't remember ever seeing one, and the park was a daily playground for my family since about 1961.
On this lovely fall day, Dad and I were in the park searching for his next painting and there in front of us was a gondola in the Big Lake. It was like some romantic magic delivered at just the right moment. Dad and I were familiar with gondolas because we traveled to Venice, Italy together. So when we saw this scene, it really struck us.
Dad was 90 years old at the time of this work, and the creative force was still very strong within him. He seemed Unstoppable as he pumped out painting after painting. And Central Park was an old reliable friend to him, offering endless moments of inspiration for his art for almost FIVE decades.
Today, each time the leaves of the season turn to their golden shades, I remember this moment, back in 2012, with Dad, and the Gondola in the Park. ❤️
