This piece beautifully captures a winter scene in Central Park, New York, with a view toward the 5th Avenue skyline.
The light snow blankets the rolling hills, and the bare trees reach up into a sky filled with a white, cloudy haze. It feels like the moments just before or after a snowfall.
In the distance, figures move along in the park, adding a sense of life and motion to the serene landscape. The wonderful old buildings of 5th Avenue stand majestically in the background, their timeless architecture adding depth and character to the scene.
The great classical artists and their ability to capture the essence of a moment deeply inspired Dad. His expressionist, fauve, and impressionistic styles are evident in this piece, with bold brushstrokes and a vibrant use of colors and shades that brings the scene to life.
Growing up in uptown Manhattan, in Spanish Harlem, we often walked the three miles to this part of Central Park. It was a place of daily adventures, playing and walking our family dog. This piece not only reflects Dad's artistic talent, but also holds cherished memories of our family's time together in the heart of New York City.
Created in the winter of 1965, Dad captures the feeling of the moment, and Park Drive. ❤️
