SNOWY PARK

by Laszlo Tar

Watercolor - 1964
Cat# 20001146/1964

Description

This scene shows Central Park, just off of 5th Avenue, in uptown New York City, where we lived between 1961 and 1968.

It was a late winter day, just after a snowfall, and for Dad, it was the perfect day to paint. He loved to go out to Central Park and all around New York City to paint and draw, no matter what the weather was like.

Imagine him standing there alone in the bright, blinding snow, with his easel and freezing watercolor paints. His brushstrokes captured a joyful inspiration, creating a beautiful scene of the park. You can even see a person biking across the park, with white-topped trees and the 5th Avenue buildings in the background.

See how Dad skillfully used the snowy landscape to create contrast and depth. The white snow makes the figures and trees stand out, while the buildings in the background provide a sense of place. This winter watercolor composition of Central Park shows Dad's ability to find beauty and inspiration, even during the most unlikely yet perfect moments. It's not complicated - just life as it is, as he feels it.

On this day in 1964, Dad finds this perfect New York moment with simple strokes, and love, on a Snow Day. ❤️
