SUNDAY CARRIAGE RIDE

by Laszlo Tar

Watercolor - 1968
Cat# 20001117/1968

Description

This captivating piece transports us back to a serene early spring Sunday in the heart of New York City's iconic Central Park.

The vibrant scene unfolds with joggers in motion, horse-drawn carriages gliding along, and cyclists whizzing by, evoking a sense of joy and tranquility.

Dad, an avid artist, would often find inspiration in the beauty of Central Park and the city's diverse landscapes. And as a family, we cherished our weekend outings to the park, leaving our small Spanish Harlem apartment behind, spending hours playing and picnicking there together. We'd regularly embark on a leisurely (but not very short) stroll to reach our beloved destinations.

This particular piece holds a special place in my heart, as it captures the essence of a romantic spring day in Central Park. It's a poignant reminder of the simple pleasures in life - taking a horse-drawn carriage ride, going for a run, strolling hand-in-hand, or simply basking in the park's serene atmosphere.

For anyone who has ever experienced the magic of Central Park - or any park for that matter, this work is sure to evoke a deep sense of nostalgia and appreciation.

On this day in 1968, Dad was 46 years old. He took his easel on one of our many family trips to the park and captured this Sunday Carriage Ride. ❤️
