The scene is just outside Central Park, in New York City; near the historic Plaza Hotel on a lovely fall day.

Horse carriages patiently wait for their loving passengers to take a romantic ride through Central Park.

The Plaza Hotel's main entrance faces the southern portion of Grand Army Plaza— commemorating the Army of the Union in the Civil War. Grand Army Plaza provided the original main entrance to the carriage drives of Central Park.

We lived in upper Manhattan (Spanish Harlem) from around 1961 to 1968. It was a special time for our immigrant family, and Central Park was our daily playground. Dad spent countless days exploring the park in search of his painting and drawing scenes.

Dad was a formally educated artist, in the European style. Until his arrival to America, he preferred painting with oils, but the move to a new country came with poverty, and small apartment living was not an ideal setting for smelly oil paint. So, largely because of our limited resources and space constraints, Dad took up Watercolor painting and ink drawing.

It was 1968 now, 12 years after arriving from Hungary, and Dad was 46 years old. He was well settled into his new Watercolor painting style, in a city that offered everything he needed to fulfill his creative dream.

On this day, Dad sat on a nearby bench at the edge of Central Park and captured this beautiful timeless piece of The Carriage. ❤️
