The scene is a unique old view of the heart of New York City - the crossroads of the world - Broadway and Times Square!
On this day, Dad gained permission to do his work on the rooftop of a building overlooking Broadway.
Dad was 42 years old at the time of this work. He was bold and aggressive about his art.
In 1964, I was starting kindergarten, and for the first times since arriving in America (in 1956), Dad was free to get out there to do his work. He did not hesitate, as evidenced by his many New York City pieces from 1964 forward.
It's an amazing view of the city skyline and streets below with the Empire State Building and the old Astor Hotel on the right (now the Marriott-Marquis hotel). The Loews State theater on the left features the just-released award-winning film starring Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole - "Becket".
On this day, Dad was up there - Way Up There - looking down - ON BROADWAY. ❤️
Through My Father's Eyes
