HOMECOMING

Description

On Long Island's north shore, along a street named West Neck Road in Huntington, stands an old house. Here, every day, a couple greets each other with a kiss, either welcoming the day or bidding it farewell. Their love is timeless, captured in a single, tender moment.

It was an early fall afternoon when Dad decided to immortalize this scene. The leaves had just begun to change, painting the landscape with hues of amber and gold. The crisp air carried the faintest scent of the sea, a gentle reminder of the nearby sound. Dad, with his easel and paints, stood ready at the side of the road to capture the essence of this idyllic setting.

Here, the couple in the painting stands before their home, lost in a moment's kiss, while their dogs frolic around them, embodying pure joy and freedom. The scene is alive with the energy of love and the warmth of home. It's all pretty simple, yet powerful.

Dad creates a vibrant dance of colors and emotions. His brush strokes, bold and expressive, each one a testament to his passion.

Long Island was Dad's muse, a place where he found endless inspiration later in life. He had spent endless days and years capturing New York City in his many paintings and drawings. But as he got older, his ability to traverse the city alone came into question. So together, Dad and I would wander out east to the many charming neighborhoods, scenic harbors and landscapes of Long Island, searching for the perfect scenes for him to paint. Each exploration was a new adventure, filled with wisdom and discovery.

Dad's eyes would light up with excitement whenever he found a location that spoke to him.

And on this day in 1995, Dad found a Homecoming. ❤️
