Description
After Mom passed away in 2007 after a long illness, Dad came to live with us on Long Island. My single mission was to aggressively restart his outdoor painting and to keep him active with his art.
In 2013, Dad was 91 years old and he still had it. ❤️
With every day came a new creation, as it had been for the past 84 years (he started his art at age 5). Whether in our backyard, at a local harbor, a nearby park, Central Park, or Hoboken New Jersey - he was unstoppable. We even spoke about returning to Venice, Italy, but that never materialized because while Dad was going strong, he would significantly weaken in a few years, and he already had symptoms of mild dementia. Unlike, in 1995, this time I didn't move quick enough, and today that saddens me because I feel I could have done more for him, and for us together.
On this day, he set up his easel right in front of our home and created this beautiful painting of our rhododendron bush in full bloom. I can even see a bit of cubism in the way he rendered that flower pot.
Dad had a unique vision for all things beautiful. It didn't take much for him to see what he felt and get it all down on paper.
A simple painting reflecting a happy mood; a forever moment, and It Was June. ❤️
