Description
We had a neighbor, Anthony, who loved lighthouses. He collected all forms of lighthouses - miniatures, models, photos, books - and he knew the detailed history of many.
One day, Dad decided to paint Anthony a lighthouse from his imagination and this is that creation. It's an amazing and moving work, with that BIG, rough sea, beautiful sky, and even a few passing seagulls.
I remember helping Dad mount the canvas and build the simple frame for this work.
Dad gifted it to his friend Anthony, and he was so happy to receive it. The painting hung as a centerpiece in his living room for many years until his passing. Afterward, the family returned it to Dad, with love and appreciation for his kindness. ❤️
In later years, I would take Dad to the Montauk lighthouse, at the tip-end of Long Island to paint, but this piece is the most expressive of this subject, and the story of friendship that it is built upon, adds to its beauty as the beacon of hope and safety lighthouses represent - The Lighthouse. ❤️
