ALMOST FALL

by Laszlo Tar

Watercolor - 2001
Cat# 20001084/2001

Description

Dad's painting, "Almost Fall," hangs in my minds eye, a burst of color and life.

It's a watercolor masterpiece that captures the flowers of late summer.

Mom had a bountiful English-style garden, and the flowers of that garden are immortalized in Dad's many flower paintings.

This painting features a collection of Mom's flowers, each one more vibrant than the last. Rust-colored and yellow mums, a single pink lily, and one delicate yellow rose all sit proudly in an Italian vase. The background is a soft, pale pink, creating a gentle contrast to the bold royal blue base. The colors blend and dance together, creating a symphony of hues that seem almost alive.

Dad always admired the works of Dufy, Picasso, Matisse, and Cézanne, and you can see their influence in his art. His style is a beautiful mix of expressionism, fauvism, and impressionism, with a touch of his own unique flair. Each brushstroke tells a story, each color choice reflects his mood and thoughts. He could make the simplest subjects come alive with his vibrant palette and dynamic compositions.

When I look at this piece, I feel a deep connection to my parents. I remember the long hours spent with them, and coming to visit and finding Dad painting in his studio to the sound of classical music. I recall the way his eyes would light up when he talked about his art and how he saw the world in such a unique and beautiful way. His art was his way of expressing his emotions, his dreams, and his love for life.

The flowers in this painting are more than just flowers to me. They are symbols of Dad's creativity and zest for life. Each flower, and every one of his works, holds a piece of his soul, a part of his spirit that continues to inspire me every day.

On this day in 2001, Dad created this beautiful watercolor of Almost Fall. ❤️
